SUMMARY:Immunology seminar by Valentyn Oksenych: New factors required for lymphocyte development: in vivo models
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, December 9th\, Søren Degn will host a seminar given by Valentyn Oksenych\, PhD\, \ngroup leader at Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine\, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)\, Trondheim\, Norway. \nThe title of this I&I International Seminar is: \n  \n“New factors required for lymphocyte development: in vivo models” \n  \nVenue: Merete Barker Auditorium\, (Bldg. 1253-211 / Lake side lecture theatres) \n  \nTime: 10:00-11:00am \n  \nAbstract: \nDevelopment of B and T lymphocytes depends on the DNA breaks and repair events known as V(D)J recombination. There are two molecular pathways involved in the DNA repair during the lymphocyte development\, non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) and DNA damage response (DDR). Recently\, new accessory NHEJ factors PAXX and Mri were reported. Deficiency for PAXX or Mri\, however\, had no obvious effect on the lymphocyte development. Applying genetic models\, we found that PAXX and Mri are functionally redundant with another NHEJ factor\, XLF. Moreover\, combined deficiency for XLF/PAXX and XLF/Mri results in dramatic\, although distinct\, phenotypes. In addition\, we found that multiple factors from the DDR pathway are required for specific stages of B cell development.

SUMMARY:Ireland - Israel - Denmark meeting on Host-Pathogen communication
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the intricacies of host-pathogen communication is vital in order to understand why some microbes persist within a host\, while others are effectively cleared. As such\, host-pathogen communication is an urgent area of research underpinning human health and disease\, especially given the emerging concerns of antibiotic resistance. Understanding host-pathogen pathways requires intricate knowledge in the fields of both microbiology and immunology.\nLiving in a world of specialists\, where scientists sometimes invest their whole career studying one organism\, a specific pathway or a protein\, multidisciplinary discussions of host-pathogen interactions are highly needed. This international conference will provide such a forum for scientific exchange at the highest level\, between scientists from different research areas related to host-pathogen interactions\, with the aim to trigger fruitful collaborations addressing the urgent questions in the field.\nHigh-profile keynote speakers will present their work; Nobel Laureate Professor Bruce Beutler (UT Southwestern\, Dallas) and Professor Ralf Isberg (Tufts University\, Boston).\nThis meeting has an additional special focus of bringing researchers from Ireland\, Denmark and Israel together to learn about cutting edge biology and form new collaborations. Thus\, the conference will be a showcase for the exciting and original research emanating from these three small but innovative countries. \nDeadline for registration and poster submission: Oct 1st 2018 \nDeadline for travel fellowship abstract submission: Aug 25th 2018 \nOfficial website for the meeting \nFind out more

SUMMARY:5th European Congress of Immunology (ECI)
DESCRIPTION:Registration for ECI 2018 is now open! \nThe abstract deadline for ECI 2018 has been extended\, deadline is now April 29th. \nI would also like to take the opportunity to clarify the procedures around the travel applications for the meeting. \nPlease ignore that the age limit of 35 specified by EFIS. Just fill in your date of birth\, you will be able to proceed with the application anyway. All applications that are not awarded by EFIS will get a second chance from SSI as long as you are a member and do not have more than 5 “working-years” post-PhD. \nIn order to succeed with the submission you have to upload 3 documents \n1. Abstract \n2. CV \n3. Document that certifies that you are a member of a society affiliated to EFIS. This is not strict\, it is enough with a short letter from your supervisor/group leader who certifies that you are a member of your national society for 2018. \nIt is our pleasure to inform you that the registration for the 5th European Congress of Immunology (ECI)\, taking place in Amsterdam from September 2-5\, 2018\, is now open. \nWe hope that you will join us to exchange your latest research findings and to rejuvenate your overall insights in immunology and clinical translation. \nFor more information about registration fees and tickets\, click here \n

SUMMARY:Immunology Summer School\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:We are the Junior Faculty of the Italian Society for Immunology\,\nClinical Immunology and Allergology (SIICA). We are writing to inform\nyou about the upcoming Immunology Summer School that our society is\norganizing in Messina\, 20-22 July 2018. The School is organized in two\ncourses running in parallel: the Fundaments of immunology course will\nprovide a solid background on immunology key topics to Phd Students\ninvolved in immunology-related research projects\, going beyond the\nbackground knowledge (Master) level; the Advances in immunology course\nis intended for students with an already established background in\nimmunology and will discuss emerging themes in immunology with the final\naim to provide the students with an integrated view of key elements of\nthe immune system and its complexity. Each course is based on in 10\nlessons\, delivered in English (see the attached program). Students will\nalso enjoy common activities\, including keynote lectures and other\nopportunities to deeply interact with th Faculty\, as well as ludic\nactivities (The immunology championship) and social events.
