DESCRIPTION:21st International Conference on Progress in Vaccination Against Cancer (PIVAC-22) which will be held 26th–28th September 2022 in Turin\, Italy at the Molecular Biotechnology Center. \n  \nPIVAC has a long tradition of international conferences\, hosted in different European cities annually (except 2020) since the first was held in 2000 in Cambridge. This was prompted by the pioneering vision of a small (at that time) community of researchers exploring cancer vaccination and immunotherapy\, at a time when this field was still far from being mainstream. DESCRIPTION:Gestation through to weaning from our mothers is considered to be a time when immune systems show a bias to Type 2 immunity. The significance of this for mothers and offspring health during pregnancy\, nursing and in later life is being recognised as being a key determinant of both positive and negative\, short and long term health trajectories. \nIn this meeting we will present some of the latest insights into how this early life immune status influences important health scenarios and how these effects may be extended into later life once direct maternal offspring interactions have been discontinued. We will be presenting work on how this early life environment influences the control of infection\, onset of non-communicable diseases and the maternal-offspring tolerogenic interface. Work will be presented in the context of both developed and developing world health issues.

SUMMARY:Keystone Symposium on Molecular and Cellular Biology - B cell-T cell collaboration: Regulation and Dysregulation (T4)
DESCRIPTION:SUMMARY OF MEETING:\nB cell-T cell collaboration leads\, via the germinal center reaction\, to the generation of B cell memory and long-lived affinity-matured protective antibodies. This key immune response has been extensively studied\, and\, as a result\, we have an increasingly refined understanding of the ligands\, receptors\, and intra-cellular pathways that are involved. However\, many aspects of this remarkable process as it plays out in infections\, vaccine responses\, and chronic immunological diseases remain unknown. In particular\, we still do not understand how B cells integrate complex antigenic and co-stimulatory inputs over time to make critical cell fate decisions\, including the process of clonal selection in the germinal center as well as memory B cell and long-lived plasma cell differentiation. We do not fully appreciate the spectrum of ‘non-canonical’ B cell responses to various chronic and acute infections\, especially those occurring in tissues rather than secondary lymphoid organs. And finally\, many unanswered questions remain about normal and abnormal B cell responses to commensal flora\, allergic antigens\, and self-antigens that are essential to address if we hope to understand dysregulated B cell immune responses in inflammatory\, allergic\, and autoimmune disease. This meeting brings together scientists focused on both the B cell and the Tfh cell contributions to humoral immunity in order to share innovative research focused on addressing this broad set of questions. SUMMARY:Immunology seminar by Valentyn Oksenych: New factors required for lymphocyte development: in vivo models
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, December 9th\, Søren Degn will host a seminar given by Valentyn Oksenych\, PhD\, \ngroup leader at Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine\, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)\, Trondheim\, Norway. \nThe title of this I&I International Seminar is: \n  \n“New factors required for lymphocyte development: in vivo models” \n  \nVenue: Merete Barker Auditorium\, (Bldg. 1253-211 / Lake side lecture theatres) \n  \nTime: 10:00-11:00am \n  \nAbstract: \nDevelopment of B and T lymphocytes depends on the DNA breaks and repair events known as V(D)J recombination. There are two molecular pathways involved in the DNA repair during the lymphocyte development\, non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) and DNA damage response (DDR). Recently\, new accessory NHEJ factors PAXX and Mri were reported. Deficiency for PAXX or Mri\, however\, had no obvious effect on the lymphocyte development. Applying genetic models\, we found that PAXX and Mri are functionally redundant with another NHEJ factor\, XLF. Moreover\, combined deficiency for XLF/PAXX and XLF/Mri results in dramatic\, although distinct\, phenotypes. In addition\, we found that multiple factors from the DDR pathway are required for specific stages of B cell development.
